The SMRI story starts with

In 2013, Sports & Management Research Institute (SMRI) was established to find answers for 10 questions which disturbed the sleep of its founders. Original 10 questions from the back cover of the book “Why India Can’t?” written by Sijin B T & Dr Indulekha R

SMRI started SPORTS ENGINEERING DIPLOMA course, the first one in Asia to find answer for the first question. “Why India can’t make football for 2022 world cup?” First advertise of SMRI sports engineering course is given below.

Sports Engineering department of SMRI had developed two different new football balls- WIC and Asli Indian with two different materials which reduces the impact of heading. WIC was a complete failure and the ball was damaged easily. But, Asli Indian performed better and got better results in test conditions. Balls were given to a couple of football coaches to get on the field feedback and it never happened.

Aravind Shankar and Arvind Raj, two of the first Sports Engineering students of SMRI with Asli Indian football. They joined with NIVIA, India’s top sports good manufacturing brand in Jalandhar and became part of their football and volleyball development teams.
The football development research at SMRI was badly affected by COVID19. Obviously, SMRI failed to make football for 2022 world cup.
This failure is not the end of our efforts to make football for world cup. It is just the final whistle for the one half. Now we are preparing well for the next half.
Now, Arvind Raj and Aravind Shankar join SMRI as directors and SMRI starts a campus in Trichy, Tamilnadu for accelerating sports engineering research.
