Golympics- the Olympics of Good Old Games
The second edition of Golympics will happen on May 1, 2015 at Gothuruth near North Paravoor to rejuvenate good old games of the region. The mela is part of an attempt by a group of management professionals called Synergians, Gothuruth Sports and Arts Club (SAC) and Sports & Management Research Institute (SMRI) to bring back the old games that are almost forgotten by children and young people today. Goli kali (Ariyas), Pakida, Podikali, Attiyeru, Neelanwar, Choondayidal, Konnithottu are some of the games that are part of the sports meet. The success of the first Golympics is the motivator for this edition. The organizers are planning to make the 2016 Golympics a national event to show
The competitions will begin at 9 a.m. at Chinnathambi Annavi square near Kadalvathuruth Holy Cross Church. The traditional games did not have a written set of rules, but accepted norms would be used to determine the winners of the contests. Training programme for kids to make toys and sports equipments will also take place during Golympics.
